Field Studies

The ISY Myanmar Studies Program is an integral part of the Middle School experience providing students with the opportunity to explore the diverse cultures, languages and extraordinary environment of Myanmar.

Grade 6 trip

All field studies experiences include a service learning component where students are challenged to make a meaningful contribution to the welfare of a community in Myanmar. Such experiences provide the opportunity for students to practice compassion, empathy and respect of others and incite them to reflect upon their own place in the world.

Myanmar Studies 6

In 6th Grade, students learn about the basic geography of Myanmar, basic understanding about the Burmese language, the early history of Pyu Civilization, trade and economy of Ayeyarwady River Valley Region, and the festivals of Myanmar. They are taken on a field trip to Pyay in January for four days.

Myanmar Studies 7

In 7th Grade, students learn basic Burmese language, geography, history and economy of the lower Myanmar, history and culture of Mon and Karen ethnic people, and the study on the life of a Myanmar. They take a four-day field trip in November to Kyaik Hto township to study its geography, culture, society and economy.

Myanmar Studies 8

In 8th Grade, students expend their studies on Myanmar language and literature, history and cultural developments of Bagan and Konebaung periods, modern history of Myanmar and traits and traditions of a Myanmar family. Eight grade field study trip is carried out in October. Students travel to Bagan for six days to study history, culture, and art of Bagan period, culture of people in the Bagan area.
